Information designer/editor with experience in multiple professional contexts (literary publication, journalism, instructional, and office) and publication media (print, eBooks, digital, web, conventional and digital photography, and one-of-a-kind books).

Book Design

Created a compilation of McNair Scholar’s research papers to be distributed to all of the McNair programs throughout the U.S. Responsible for the creation and design of said publication. Recruited and supervised as many as ten copy editors while working with the authors and McNair program administrators.

Designed and typeset Fighting Kite, a book of poetry. Was responsible for book design and cover treatment. Publication commissioned by Pecan Grove Press.

Designed a book of poetry that was bound in vintage matchbook covers. Developed format and typeset entire book. Matchbook: Volume I was commissioned by Small Fires Press.

Production Coordinator

Organized work flow and ensured that all interns, coop workers, work study employees, and volunteers were trained in all facets of the process of prepress development as Production Coordinator. Responsible for managing the migration from QuarkXpress 4 to QuarkXpress 6 for the North American Review and the training of users in the new program. Produced advertising and supporting web pages for annual writing competitions.

As an editorial assistant processed manuscripts from initial readings through all stages of production including final layout in the North American Review.

Senior Editor

Senior editor of Inner Weather 2005, a student literary journal, took leadership role in redesign of journal to better highlight contributor’s work. Implemented a new blind selection process for greater judging objectivity. Responsible for project management and implementation of schedules, quality assurance, and production.

Web Design

Designed and implemented a web site documenting the history of Black Hawk County <http://www.cedarnet.org/tour/>. Site is comprised of 200 individual pages with links to an additional 200 maps, graphics, and photographs while serving on HTML Committee at CedarNet Inc., a local Internet Service Provider, also responsible for developing web pages and maintaining existing pages.

Advertising

Developed newspaper advertisements and posters promoting CedarNet Inc. while serving on Advertising Committee at the Internet Service Provider.
